Today, 17 of Iceland’s 33 cinema screens are offering Ragnar Bragason’s Mr. Bjarnfredarson, the widest release in Icelandic film history. Film is the final chapter in the darkly comic saga of three hapless men, which have captured Iceland’s TV audience for the past two years in the most popular Icelandic series ever -- The Night Shift (2007), The Day Shift (2008) and The Prison Shift (2009).
Starring Jón Gnarr, Pétur Jóhann Sigfússon and Jörundur Ragnarsson as Georg, Ólafur Ragnar and Daníel, Mr. Bjarnfredarson is a redemption story spanning almost fifty years, with emphasis on Georg (Gnarr), an over educated know-it-all, that has just been released from jail, but is still a prisoner of his own past.
The film is written by Jóhann Ævar Grímssson, Bragason and the main cast. Magnús Vidar Sigurdsson, Arnbjörg Haflidadóttir and Harpa Elísa Thórsdóttir are producers for Saga film. Released by Samfilm.
An interview with Ragnar Bragason, were he discusses the whole saga, will appear on ICN TV on Tuesday.
