Karl Óskarsson, one of Iceland’s finest DP’s and a pioneer of the Icelandic film scene back in the eighties, has enjoyed a successful career as one of Europe’s top DP’s of commercials and promos for almost twenty years. Recently he lensed Tomás Masín’s debut film 3 Seasons in Hell (3 sezony v pekle) in The Czech Republic. The film premiered in November to a box office success and will roll out at international festivals in the coming months. ICN spoke briefly with Óskarsson about the film and his plans for the future.

Veteran Fridrik Thór Fridriksson’s latest film Mamma Gógó opens today. This is a serio-comic look at a film director’s struggle with his career as he has to deal with his mother’s Alzheimer condition. Film stars two of Iceland’s best known thesps, Kristbjörg Kjeld (Cold Light) and Hilmir Snær Gudnason (White Night Wedding). Fridriksson writes and produces the film with Spellbound’s Gudrún Edda Thórhannesdóttir.
