Interviewed by Iceland on Screen’s Ben Hopkins, director Einar Thor (Small Mountain) delivers a no-holds-barred analysis on the politics of Icelandic cinema affairs through the years. “When funding and vague policy review, in the course of two decades from 1979 onwards, eventually seemed to be tailored to fit the needs of few 1980s film producers, this system which for instance needed ongoing collaboration with foreign media companies, was doomed to collapse” he says and adds: “The 23% cut in government financial support, which we can say is a bit of a punch in the face, is however what the local film industry may have needed”.
